Reactions to Al Capone Does My Shirts

Wednesday session:

Since we didn't have time to do share everyone's reactions to Al Capone Does My Shirts, let's continue the discussion here on our blog.
  • What were your reactions to Al Capone? What ideas captured the interest of your small group? What new questions do you have about the book? Does anything seem unresolved?
  • Did viewing Autism is a World make you think in new ways about Al Capone? If so, how?

Katie started the discussion off on her blog and raised a number of interesting questions!:

It doesn't matter "where" we have the conversation, just as long as we get the ideas circulating!

Does it bother anyone else that the relationship between Natalie and the convict seems unresolved in the text? This part really intrigued me in the story and I was a little let down to find out that it never really mentioned what happened with the relationship at the end of the text.

The main reason I can think of this relationship being included in the text is for the fact to show to Moose and all of the other island kids that Natalie does have feelings like a normal 16 year old girl would have and that she's not as different from them than they all thought. I think that the point at which Moose sees Natalie with the convict may have been the point at which Moose actually does realize this, anyone agree/disagree?
